The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released an instructional memorandum (IM) to protect habitat connectivity for fish and native plants and to preserve the ability for wildlife to migrate between seasonal habitats.
The IM directs BLM state offices to access habitat connectivity areas and conduct planning, conservation and restoration efforts to ensure those areas remain intact and healthy and can support diverse wildlife and plant populations.
According to BLM, the IM does not affect private lands and does not designate corridors with this action, “nor does it intend to.”
BLM Director Tracy Stone-Manning said the IM ties in with work already occurring with Tribes, state agencies, conservation groups and others “to make sure wildlife has room to roam well into the future.”
