Three men from Florida were arrested in several thefts of beef and pork from packing plants and trucking facilities throughout the Midwest, the Grand Island Independent reported.
In June and September, several semitrailers filled with meat were stolen from a Lineage Logistics facility in Grand Island, NE, and a JBS pork facility in Ottumwa, IA.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s office in Nebraska described the theft ring as a sophisticated and “highly organized criminal enterprise.”
In conjunction with the Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) Omaha, the sheriff’s office identified approximately 45 thefts throughout several Midwestern states totaling $9 million.
HSI Omaha and HSI Miami identified and arrested three individuals, recovering three tractor trailers with stolen merchandise valued at $550,000.
