Industry groups are requesting more time to review a proposed rule by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that would require companies to report supply chain emissions.
The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) says the rule could require reporting from farmers and ranchers, and farm groups need more time to understand rule implications.
The Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors rule would require public companies to report data about their entire supply chain.
“Nearly every farmer’s and rancher’s products eventually touch a publicly traded company, meaning that farmers and ranchers could be forced to report personal information and business-related data,” AFBF said in a news release.
A total of 120 agriculture organizations submitted a letter to the SEC asking for a comment period extension. Comments for the rule are to be submitted by May 20 and can be found by searching for docket ID 2022-06342 at regulations.gov.
