A coalition of agriculture industry groups recently penned a letter to President Joe Biden, asking for solutions to increased costs and delays in exporting goods overseas.
“The increased costs and delays our members face as they struggle to export their products are affecting their competitiveness, growth, job creation, and on a broader level, drag down our trade balance and national economic recovery,” the letter read.
The groups said costs to ship a container have increased between 300 and 500 percent in the past two years, and producers are losing from 10 to 40 percent of their export value due to added costs. The letter concludes by asking for legislative relief, reviews, incentives or assistance. A total of 74 groups signed onto the letter, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, North American Meat Institute, U.S. Meat Export Federation and United States Cattlemen’s Association.
