Story Short: $210 million for drought projects

The Biden administration announced $210 million in funding for projects in the West to address water storage and conveyance projects to bring drinking water to communities.

The projects are expected to develop over 1.7 million acre-feet (an acre-foot is equal to 325,851 gallons) of additional water storage capacity, enough water to support 6.8 million people for a year.

One of the projects includes $5 million for conducting the Verde River sedimentation feasibility study in Arizona. In California, funding includes $25 million to the San Luis and Delta-Mendota Water Authority, $30 million for the Sites Reservoir project in Maxwell and $82 million for the Los Vaqueros Reservoir expansion. Other projects include $60 million for the Arkansas Valley Conduit pipeline in Colorado and $5 million to increase the Cle Elum reservoir’s capacity in Washington.
