A coalition of outdoor sporting groups filed an immediate appeal to a federal judge’s recent decision that ordered the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to reconsider Endangered Species Act (ESA) protections for gray wolves in the West.
“This ruling is the latest string of nonstop litigation by environmental groups seeking to frustrate the original intent of the ESA, which is to recover endangered species and return them to state-based management, not keep them perpetually listed and under the authority of the federal government,” said Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) President and CEO Kyle Weaver.
The group said the minimum wolf population in the West is at least 3,200 wolves, a number that continues to grow. RMEF is joined by the Safari Club International and Sportsmen’s Alliance in the appeal.
