Sonoma County, CA, voters chose to overwhelmingly vote against animal activists’ ballot measure to ban concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in the county.

Measure J received only 15% of votes in support. “While we’re disappointed by the results, one thing is clear: the measure put the factory farming industry on the defensive,” said measure proponent Coalition to End Factory Farming.

“The opposition was forced to spend millions of dollars and resort to fearmongering and outright lies to scare voters into voting no.” The campaign said it plans to debrief, gather information and discuss new ways to come together and “end factory farming” in Sonoma County.
