Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) announced it was notified on April 7 of a potential wolf depredation incident in Jackson County.

A CPW wildlife officer responded and conducted a field investigation. The investigation revealed injuries on a deceased calf consistent with wolf depredation, notably a partially consumed hindquarter. Additionally, partial wolf tracks were discovered in the vicinity. CPW acknowledges the presence of four wolves in the area, including those released in December 2023 and others with established territory in North Park.

Due to an exception within the Colorado Open Records Act, CPW opted not to disclose the precise location of the wolf-related incident in Jackson County or specific details regarding the affected animal.

The livestock producer may qualify for reimbursement equivalent to the fair market value of the livestock upon submission of a claim. Collaborating under a memorandum of understanding, CPW and the Colorado Department of Agriculture are jointly tackling predation issues, including developing a range riders program to assist ranchers in implementing non-lethal deterrence measures.
