Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund (R-CALF) USA penned a letter to the secretary of Commerce, requesting the examination of the effects of lamb and mutton imports on U.S. national security.

The group urges for the U.S. sheep industry to be a priority under President Donald Trump’s America First Trade Policy memorandum, which calls for a review of imports under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act. R-CALF said that excessive imports have led to a significant decline in the domestic sheep industry, which threatens national security due to reduced production of lamb, mutton and wool.
