PG&E requests dam removals in CA

The Link River Dam at the head of Klamath River.

In late July, PG&E filed a Surrender Application and Decommissioning Plan for the Potter Valley Project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Potter Valley Project is located in northern California in Lake and Mendocino counties. Water captured and stored in Lake Pillsbury is released into the Eel River, captured again in Van Arsdale Reservoir and then diverted to the Potter Valley Powerhouse and used to generate power. Water is then discharged into irrigation canals to provide irrigation water in the Potter Valley.

The decommission plan would remove  the Cape Horn Dam and Scott Dam to allow fish to access habitat in the Upper Eel River watershed. The plan also includes a request to construct the New Eel-Russian Facility at the current Cape Horn Dam to provide diversion flows from the Eel River to the Russian River.
