The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) authorized on March 11 the removal of up to two wolves from the Grouse Flats Pack in Wallowa County, OR, due to chronic depredation incidents.

The authorization allows landowners or agents to remove wolves on private pastures until April 30. Three confirmed depredation events since October 2023 prompted the request for lethal removal, with two wolves already removed under the “caught in the act” provision on March 6. The latest depredation occurred on March 6 on private land in Wallowa County, resulting in the death of a bull.

The producer is employing various non-lethal measures to mitigate conflicts, with ongoing updates to be provided following the permit’s expiration or extension.
