The ballot measure that animal activists are trying to get on Oregon’s 2026 ballot is one step closer to making it on the ballot.

The People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act petition has gathered enough signatures for petitioners to request a ballot title from the Oregon attorney general (AG).

The AG has until March 6 to draft the ballot title.

The measure is being fronted by the same animal activists who were behind Initiative Petition (IP) 3 and IP13, which were efforts to redefine animal cruelty and sexual assault in the state statutes.

The PEACE Act is largely the same as the previous measures but changes the misdemeanor classifications for animal abuse and includes new penalties for individuals convicted of animal abuse.
