OR animal ballot initiative granted title

Jackie Nix

Oregon Initiative Petition 28 (IP28), the People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act, has received a certified ballot title from the state attorney general for the 2026 election.

The initiative was filed last fall and is a new iteration of IP13 in 2020 and IP3 in 2022. The ballot title reads as follows: “Criminalizes breeding practices, injuring/killing animals, including for food, hunting, fishing. Creates transition fund. Exceptions.”

Any registered voter who submitted comments on the draft ballot title may petition the Oregon Supreme Court to review the ballot title. Appeals may be submitted until April 18. For information on how to submit an appeal visit tinyurl.com/3ny4spsx.
