About William P. ‘Bill’ Harvey

William P. “Bill” Harvey, 82, of Corning, CA, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 27. Born on Dec. 20, 1942, in Corning, Bill was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. He graduated from Corning High School in 1960, served in the California National Guard, and went on to build a career as a skilled auto mechanic and millwright that reflected his natural talent with tools, machines and the art of problem-solving.

Bill married and shared many years of his early life with Karen, with whom he raised their two children. Bill was a man of many passions. He had a lifelong love for speedfast cars and fast boats. He was an avid history enthusiast, particularly fascinated with the American West, traveling much of it. He found peace and inspiration in the mountains, whether hiking, skiing or camping.

Bill had a remarkable ability to listen deeply and give generously of his time and creativity. Many of us will cherish the tools and handcrafted treasures he made, each one a lasting symbol of his love and care.

Bill is survived by his children, Bill Harvey (Martha) and Janeen Zambo (John). He is also survived by his beloved grandsons, Jefferson Zambo and Will Harvey; his sister, Linda Spaletta (Bill); his long-time companion, Linda; and many dear friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and support. He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Wes” and Louise Harvey; his sister, Betty Boyd; and his brother, Robert “Bobby” Harvey.

Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his integrity, his passion and the way he shared his many opinions. A celebration of life will be held in Corning later in the fall. Donations may be made in Bill’s name to KXIE – TV in support of history and local programming.
