Oma ‘Bronc’ May; 1953-2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oma Kenneth May Jr., affectionately known to everyone as “Bronc.” Bronc was born on Sept. 10, 1953, in Hereford, TX, as the middle child of Oma Kenneth Sr. “Ken” May and Felva “Febe” Wright. He spent his formative years in Vega, TX, where his love for football blossomed. Bronc attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he played as a quarterback (No. 11) for the Mavericks.

During his time at the university, Bronc met his first wife, Dale Smith, and together they shared 40 beautiful years of marriage. Their union blessed them with two wonderful children, Brandon May and Jessica May. Bronc was a proud father and grandfather. His son, Brandon, along with his wife, Carrilee, and their children, Sawyer, Brooks and Brecklee, reside in Sioux Falls, SD. Jessica and her husband, Ryan Gaskill, reside in Mineola, TX. Bronc lovingly supported Dale through her long battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She passed away in 2016.

Bronc dedicated 16 years of his professional life to Simplot Land and Livestock, where he served as the custom feeding manager. He collaborated with local ranchers, sourced cattle, served customers and oversaw all fat cattle sales. Bronc was an award-winning cattleman and found immense joy in making cattle deals and overseeing the Simplot wild horse facility. Bronc considered all of his customers close friends and worked tirelessly for them.

In 2018, Bronc once again found love when he crossed paths with Dixie Black. Their love story led to a beautiful marriage, and they spent the last six years together in Bruneau, ID. Bronc’s life was not without its share of loss, as he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dale; sister, Debbie; brother, Brent; mother, Felva; and father, Oma Kenneth. He is survived by his loving wife, Dixie, his son, Brandon and his daughter, Jessica.

Bronc passed away peacefully in his home on Sept. 20 after battling lung cancer. His departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Bronc will forever be remembered for his unwavering love, his passion for cattle, and the profound impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
