March 7, 1962 — June 21, 2026
Michael (Mike) Parker Pettit was born on March 7, 1962, in Bakersfield, CA, to Arnold and Linda Pettit. He was raised in the country and in the mountains alongside his sister, Tracy, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work, the outdoors and family.
Mike attended Foothill High School and was a standout athlete, later being inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame as a member of the 1980 football team. Shortly after high school, he married Carol Black and built a life centered on family, raising two sons, Justin and Brandon, who were his greatest pride and joy.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Mike dedicated 20 years to the Kern County Fire Department. He loved being a firefighter and earned numerous recognitions throughout his career. Some of his most cherished moments were sharing fire stories with his sons when they worked on Hotshot crews.
After retiring, Mike devoted himself fully to his lifelong passion—cattle ranching. He spent years building a ranch and herd he was deeply proud of. In the last decade, he co-founded Santa Carota Beef with his son, Justin, a venture that took them across the country and allowed them to serve others through both business and generosity.
In late 2025, Mike was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He faced his illness with strength and faith, spending his final months in Texas surrounded by his sons and grandchildren, cherishing time that meant everything to him.
On June 21, Mike went home to be with the Lord, reuniting with his father on Father’s Day in a way that felt uniquely fitting.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Pettit and Linda Pettit Charlton. He is survived by his sister, Tracy Studebaker (Curt); his sons, Justin (Corinne) Pettit and Brandon (Gina) Pettit; and his five grandchildren, Luke, Hank, Cora, Gracie and Kendall Pettit.
Those who knew Mike considered themselves fortunate. He lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, service and generosity. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
