While it may have been frigid outside, inside the Wagner Equipment Co. Auction Arena at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) presented by CommonSpirit Health, sales were as hot as ever. During opening week, the HW Hutchison Family Stockyards Event Center in the new Cille and Ron Williams Yards hosted 10 outstanding livestock sales.
Grossing over $7.2 million in livestock sales, featuring 1,616 elite lots of cattle and swine genetics, the Wagner Equipment Co. Auction Arena played host to a phenomenal first week at the 2024 NWSS auctions.
Livestock producers from across the country, representing 40 states and Canada, have already sourced genetics sold through this year’s livestock sales. The high-selling bull over the week, a Maintainer bull, is headed to Texas, selling for $77,000. The high-selling cow of the first 10 sales was a cow consigned to the Simmental One and Only Sale, selling for $50,000. Featured pick lots in the Foundation Angus Sale, as well as the One and Only Simmental Sale, sold for over $68,000 and $75,000, respectively.
“The National Western Stock Show prides itself on providing facilities that are state of the art to conduct livestock sales and the sharing of best practices in leading genetics,” said Paul Andrews, president and CEO. “We are honored to keep the food chain healthy for the world working with ranchers from all over the country.”
Shows and sales continued through Jan. 21. — NWSS
