Noted Salinas Pioneer Is Dead: 1929

Peter Zabala, 61 years old, descendant of one of Monterey’s oldest families and one of California’s best known criminal attorneys, died at his home in Salinas Monday. Mr. Zabala was one of those who was responsible for the inception and development of the annual California rodeo at Salinas, and he held open house for all visitors during that week.

Mr. Zabala’s father came to San Francisco from Spain more than 100 years ago. He settled on a large Spanish grant under authority of the King of Spain. This land is said to be the finest in the Salinas Valley.
