The U.S., Mexico and Canada’s meat industry organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to improve trade within North America.
The North American Meat Institute, Canadian Meat Council and Consejo Mexicano de la Carne formalized the MOU along with a joint statement of coordination to address other commitments.
“More frequent, formal exchanges among our organizations and between industry and government will benefit the communities and workers we serve, will augment regional and global food security, and will mitigate regulatory and legal barriers that undermine our industries’ integration,” the groups wrote in the documents.
In the joint statement of agreement, the organizations emphasized their commitments to addressing foreign animal diseases, sustainability and non-tariff trade barriers. The groups will plan to meet again this summer to reevaluate priorities and discuss progress.
