The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has named three previously unnamed wolf packs identified by the agency last summer.

The newly named packs are the Beyem Seyo Pack in Plumas County, the Harvey Pack in Lassen County and the Yowlumni Pack in Tulare County. The Beyem Seyo Pack has at least two adults and six pups, the Harvey Pack has at least two adults and one pup, and the Yowlumni Pack consists of two adults and six pups.

The department’s Wolf Management Update report for August-October 2023 shows six named wolf packs in the state and a group of two wolves caught on a trail camera in Sierra and Nevada counties. The report stated the department conducted 18 depredation investigations and confirmed nine depredations.

Amaroq Weiss, a senior wolf advocate at the Center for Biological Diversity, said wolves belong in the state and that “we should do everything we can to ensure they thrive.”
