President Joe Biden recently signed a proclamation under the Antiquities Act designating a new national monument, Avi Kwa Ame National Monument, in Nevada.
The national monument spans over 500,000 acres of public lands in the Mojave Desert of southern Nevada.
“The area is a biodiversity hotspot,” said Laura Cunningham, California Director at Western Watersheds Project in a statement. “Among the dense Joshua trees and yuccas, a lush Mojave Desert grassland grows, recovering beautifully from historic cattle grazing that ceased twenty years ago.”
