A ballot measure that would ban slaughter in the city and county of Denver continues to garner more opposition, with some surprising opponents.
Ordinance 309 is opposed by agriculture groups as the measure targets Denver’s one remaining processing facility, Superior Farms, the largest lamb packing facility in the U.S. Recently, former Denver City Councilwoman Kendra Black filed a campaign finance complaint against the measure’s proponents, Pro-Animal Future and Pro-Animal Denver, alleging the groups concealed the identities of the supporting donors along with other required information about expenditures. In addition, the Central Committee of the Denver Democrat party endorsed a “no” position against the measure on a 207-12 vote.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7, Service Employees International Union 105, Denver Area Labor Federation, Denver Pipefitters Local #208, the Teamsters Union and the Working Families Party also oppose the measure, according to a Complete Colorado report.
