New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez announced that 57 new jobs in Chaves County will be created with the opening of a new industrial meat processing facility near Roswell. A press release from the governor’s office said the first-of-its kind facility in New Mexico will support local dairy and cattle growers by enabling them to get their products to market more efficiently. “Thanks to Governor Martinez’ efforts to make New Mexico more business friendly and to grow the LEDA [Local Economic Development Act] fund, we’re able to make our new facility a reality,” said Jose Madrid, CEO of USA Beef. “We’re proud to add new jobs in Chaves County and to bring much needed services to local dairy farmers and cattle growers.” The company will invest more than $5.4 million to renovate and open the facility. The New Mexico Economic Development Department will invest $400,000 in LEDA funds in USA Beef’s new facility. Martinez was in Roswell on Oct. 4 for the official ribbon cutting to mark the plant’s opening.
