The Meat Institute calls for a comprehensive trade policy agenda and the removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers to promote the growth of the meat and poultry industries.
The organization penned comments to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in response to a request for input on significant foreign trade barriers.
“The industry’s export potential remains limited by unjustified sanitary barriers, prohibitive tariffs and tariff rate quotas, and onerous registration and approval requirements for exporting facilities, among other impediments,” said Julie Anna Potts, Meat Institute president and CEO.
The group details several objectives for an ambitious trade agenda in its 15-page comments.
