Friday markets
The cattle market moved into the weekend on a mostly steady note.
Live cattle futures were higher, up 50 cents to $231.02 on the October contract and up $1.02 to $234.50 on the December contract.
Cash trade for the day totaled about 2,300 head. Live steers sold from $228-230, and dressed steers sold for $358.
Slaughter for the day is estimated at 91,000 head. With tomorrow’s slaughter estimated at 8,000 head, total slaughter for the week is expected at 557,000 head.
Boxed beef prices closed mixed on 163 loads. The Choice cutout lost 95 cents to close at $362.27, and the Select cutout gained $1.98 to close at $345.38.
Feeder cattle
Feeder cattle futures were higher, up $2.87 to $357.17 on the October contract and up $3.02 to $355.42 on the November contract.
The CME Feeder Cattle Index closed at $361.63.
Corn futures were lower, down 3 cents on the December contract to $4.19 and down 2 cents on the March contract to $4.35. — Anna Miller Fortozo, WLJ managing editor
