After 70 years in operation, Lubbock Feeders of Texas will close, marking the end of a major chapter in the southern Plains’ agricultural economy.

According to Everything Lubbock, the feedyard, established in 1955, fed more than 5 million head of cattle and celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2025. Manager and CEO Kyle Williams called the decision “tough and emotional,” noting the legacy built by generations of cattle feeders and employees. Everything Lubbock cited economic and regulatory pressures, including USDA’s closure of the southern border to Mexican cattle imports due to New World screwworm concerns, which cut off 60-70% of the supply. Williams says the yard will finish feeding out the remaining cattle currently on site before ceasing operations.
