Letter to the Editor: Attending the Denver Stock Show

Dear Western Livestock Journal,

I deeply value your publication and am gifting subscriptions to my adult children to keep them informed on myriad agricultural policies and events.

I go way back with WLJ—my daddy was Norman W. Libby, a Hereford producer from the Circle Bar Ranch in northeastern New Mexico. I have fond memories of going with him to the Denver Livestock show in the early 1960s. He drove his Cadillac really close to the grounds, turned up an alley, and we parked near a back-door entrance. Daddy would knock on the door and Dick Crow (Pete’s dad) or Forrest Bassford (or one of the other fieldmen) would unlock the door and let us in. We were warmly welcomed, offered coffee and doughnuts and lots of conversations about bulls!

We spent many a cold morning walking around the yards looking at pens of cattle and then we would go to the Club where my daddy would throw down a couple of Scotch and soda cocktails before a prime rib lunch. It was great fun.

I warmly recall those memories and the camaraderie and socializing all the cowmen enjoyed. As a cute young ranch girl wearing well-fitting Wranglers and handmade boots, I loved being the center of attention among some of the finest men and women I have ever associated with.

Just reminiscing… Thank you and give my regards to Pete! He does a great job, and he’s a lot like his dad.

Best regards,

Tuda Libby Crews; Bueyeros, NM
