During the State Leadership Day Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 23, President Trump indicated he may nominate current acting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler to be the actual agency leader.
“He’s acting, but he’s doing well, right? So maybe he won’t be so acting so long,” Trump was quoted by The Hill as saying during the Tuesday conference.
Wheeler was originally nominated and confirmed as the EPA deputy administrator but took over the head role after previous EPA administrator Scott Pruitt resigned on July 6. Pruitt’s resignation—tendered on July 5, effective July 6—followed months of several investigations for ethics violations, including misuse of government funds and resources for private purposes.
If Trump nominates Wheeler to the higher position, he would have to go through another Senate confirmation process.
