The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) recently announced the California spotted owl will not be listed under the Endangered Species Act.
“Through consultation with experts, reviewing site surveys and examining scientific literature, the Service determined that California spotted owls continue to inhabit their historic range, and the species is not in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range, nor is it likely to become so in the foreseeable future,” a released statement said.
USFWS continues on to say that although listing the species as endangered or threatened is not necessary, it will continue working to conserve California spotted owl habitat.
