USDA announced on June 20 that it will be supplying $75 million in funding for the eradication and control of feral swine through the Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program.
This new program was included in the 2018 Farm Bill to help curb the threat of feral swine to agriculture, ecosystems and human health.
The program is a joint effort between Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
NRCS has appointed up to $33.75 million of the funds to go towards working with landowners in targeted areas with the highest feral swine populations, including Texas and Oklahoma.
Applications are being accepted until Aug. 19 for landowners interested in working with NRCS.
Pilot projects will consist of feral swine removal by APHIS, restoration efforts by NRCS and assistance to producers for feral swine control.
Projects can last from one to three years.
