Legal Ledger Brief: USCA requests market assistance

The United States Cattlemen’s Association (USCA) called on the USDA to take steps to address the impact the coronavirus is having on the U.S. cattle market.

“… producers’ bottom lines are suffering due to the effect the outbreak has had on the cattle and beef industries,” USCA President Dr. Brooke Miller said in a released statement.

“We must act expeditiously to return normalcy to the cattle marketplace.”

USCA said it has created a special task force to address the market fallout, and asks USDA to utilize Commodity Credit Corporation funding to fund struggling producers and feeders.

The group also requested federal inspection of meat packing facilities be deemed essential and processing plants remain open.
