USDA Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer announced China has taken actions toward implementing agriculture-related commitments in the Phase One deal between the two countries.
The actions include: signing a protocol to allow U.S. fresh chipping potatoes, lifting the ban on U.S. poultry product imports, lifting restrictions on U.S. pet foods containing ruminant material, updating lists of facilities approved for exporting animal protein, pet food, dairy infant formula, and tallow to China, updating feed additives approved to export to China, and updating seafood species that can be shipped to China.
China has also begun to announce tariff exclusions on U.S. agricultural products and reduce retaliatory tariff rates on some U.S. agricultural products.
“We look forward to realizing these benefits this year and are encouraged by progress made last week,” Perdue said. “We fully expect compliance with all elements of the deal.”
