Legal Ledger Brief: Tyson Foods settles for $221.5M

Tyson Foods announced it would pay $221.5 million to settle claims of conspiring to inflate chicken prices.

Tyson did not admit liability in agreeing to settle with three “end-user” consumers, commercial purchasers, and purchasers that bought chickens directly from Tyson.

The settlements resolve all class claims against the company brought by the group that alleged Tyson conspired since 2008 to inflate chicken prices through various tactics. The company still faces price-fixing lawsuits by Chick-fil-A, Kroger Co., Walmart Inc. and Sysco Corp.
