After announcing an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports back in May, the administration has decided to remove some products facing new tariffs after Sept. 1 from the list.
“Certain products are being removed from the tariff list based on health, safety, national security and other factors and will not face additional tariffs of 10 percent,” said a statement from the United States Trade Representative.
In addition, certain products will have a delayed tariff until Dec. 15, including cell phones, laptop computers, video games and clothing and footwear.
Agricultural imports will continue to have an increased tariff after the first of the month in September.
President Donald Trump told reporters on Aug. 13 the tariffs were being delayed for the Christmas season, “just in case some of the tariffs would have an impact on U.S. customers.”
