President Donald Trump has officially nominated William Perry Pendley to be director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
Pendley has been serving as the acting director of BLM for the past year, a role which has generated much controversy.
Pendley’s acting appointments have been extended several times, which some have called unconstitutional, as he was not confirmed by the Senate and was not named under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. Pendley’s nomination will now go to the Senate, where they will decide whether or not to confirm his appointment.
“I commend President Trump’s intent to nominate William Perry Pendley who has been a leader at the Bureau of Land Management for nearly a year,” said Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt.
“He’s doing a great job, including acquiring more than 25,000 acres of public land for expanded recreational access.”
