Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s pick for the director of the Office of Management and Budget, had her Senate committee votes postponed Feb. 24.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Budget committees sent out notices that Tanden’s votes were delayed to give members more time to consider her nomination. Tanden’s nomination has not been a smooth process and has contrived much controversy.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he would oppose her nomination, citing past negative tweets she made about senators on both sides of the aisle. With Manchin’s opposition and a 50-50 majority in the Senate, at least one Republican will need to support her nomination in order for her to be confirmed. Moderates such as Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mitt Romney (R-UT) have also grown in their opposition to her confirmation.
Even following the vote postponement announcement, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tweeted, “Tanden is a leading policy expert who brings critical qualifications to the table during this time of unprecedented crisis.”
