The House of Representatives passed the Ocean Shipping Reform Act earlier this month, which would prohibit ocean carriers from unreasonably declining cargo bookings.
Reps. Dusty Johnson (R-SD-At large) and John Garamendi (D-CA-03) introduced the legislation and said it would ensure more competitive trade, protect American businesses and consumers from price gouging and establish reciprocal trade opportunities.
“Congress must restore balance at our ports and tackle the longstanding trade imbalance our nation has with China and other countries head-on,” Garamendi said.
The legislation is endorsed by more than 360 groups and businesses, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, state Departments of Agriculture, North American Meat Institute, U.S. Meat Export Federation and others.
