Legal Ledger Brief: Sage-grouse plans challenged again

On April 19, four environmental groups—Western Watersheds Project, WildEarth Guardians, Center for Biological Diversity, and the Prairie Hills Audubon Society—filed suit against the Department of the Interior, the BLM, and the U.S. Forest Service for their recently-completed greater sage-grouse plans.

The groups are asking the District Court of Idaho to block the new plans, recently covered in WLJ on March 25.

The groups allege the plans passed last month will “gut protections for the birds’ dwindling populations and destroy their habitat,” according to a group announcement of the suit.

This suit is in addition to a similar suit the groups launched in March against the Interior and the BLM for a similar purpose.

This suit asks for a preliminary injunction against the implementation of the amended management plans pending the outcome of their earlier challenge.
