Legal Ledger Brief: Reminder: Livestock haulers exempted

The California Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have reminded livestock haulers that they are exempted from electronic logging device (ELD) requirements for those operating in interstate commerce “until further notice.”

The FMCSA website on hours of service includes this information as well as a digital copy of the relevant exemption notice document.

CCA notes that although the notice states haulers are not required to keep any written evidence of the exemption, it strongly suggests haulers print a copy to keep in your vehicle at all times in case you are questioned by law enforcement. The notice and more information can be found online at fmcsa.dot.gov, then search for “livestock.”
