The U.S. Forest Service is updating its rangeland management directives in an attempt to make them more “usable, modern and conform to recent legislation.”
The updates provide more management flexibility and clarify the policies and procedures to be used for consistent management. The proposed updates include waiving permits to children or grandchildren; expanding discussion on eligible entities; adding a section on conservation easements and agricultural land trusts; flexibility to build back numbers after destocking herds; updating new laws and audits for clarity; and expanding discussions for grazing rights.
To view the updates in their entirety and to submit comments, you may visit fs.fed.us/rangeland-management/directives.shtml or mail them to U.S. Forest Service, Director, Forest Management, Range Management and Vegetation Ecology, 201 14th Street SW, Suite 3SE, Washington, DC 20250-1124. Comments will be accepted through Feb. 16.
