Sens. Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced the Outdoor Restoration Partnership Act of 2021 in late April, although Bennet first introduced the legislation in December.
Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO-6) and Mike Simpson (R-ID-2) are chairing the effort behind companion legislation in the House of Representatives. The $60 billion measure would provide support to local efforts to restore habitat, expand outdoor access and mitigate wildfire, according to Bennet.
“For years, Congress has failed to invest in the outdoors—undermining our forests and watersheds, which sustain our economy and western way of life,” Bennet said. The bill is currently sitting in the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and was also included in President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan.
