The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recently removed more than 1,700 wild horses from Nevada and Utah.

The roundup took place in Lincoln County, NV, and Beaver and Iron counties in Utah.

BLM concluded the roundup Feb. 25 after gathering 1,716 horses and treating 28 mares with a fertility control vaccine.

In 2008, BLM determined the area could support zero wild horses, and says the recent removal was necessary to improve watershed health, horse health, and achieve suitable rangeland health.

Horses were transported to the Palomino Valley Center Wild Horse and Burro Corrals in Sparks, NV.

Horses will be up for adoption and any non-adopted horses will be placed in long-term pastures.
