California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed two bills into law that the industry celebrated: Senate Bill (SB) 332, which minimizes prescribed fire liability, and Assembly Bill (AB) 1103, which establishes a statewide framework for county “Livestock Pass” programs.
SB 332 will protect prescribed fire practitioners against uncontrolled or escaped fires as long as the practitioner did not act in a grossly negligent manner.
AB 1103 will facilitate county adoption of Livestock Pass programs, which allow producers to access their livestock in the case of an emergency or wildfire.
The California Cattlemen’s Association applauded both measures.
