The National Parks Service (NPS) is proposing to develop a new livestock management plan for North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park to guide future management of feral horses and cattle herds.
Horse management is currently conducted under a 1978 environmental assessment, and Longhorn cattle management is conducted under a 1970 management plan. The new livestock plan will consider the role of Longhorn cattle and horses in the park and their impact on native species.
A 30-day commenting period began March 16, and producers may submit input until April 15 at parkplanning.nps.gov/LMP, or by mail to Superintendent, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, PO Box 7, Medora, ND 58645. NPS also held a virtual public meeting on March 30.
