After a tough 2019, many North Dakota farmers and ranchers were left with unusable or inadequate feed supplies.
To help producers out, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture launched the Feed Transportation Cost-Share Program.
The $250,000 state-funded program gives back a portion of the cost ranchers use to transport hay.
“It could be 30 percent, could be 40 percent of the transportation cost, could be 50 percent or more. It’s all dependent on in the end what we have for request,” North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring told news outlet KFYRTV.
Ranchers who own more than 25 head of breeding livestock with evidence of damaged hay they purchased between the end of September and the end of January may apply for the program.
Paper applications must be postmarked by Feb. 10.
More information on eligibility can be found at the North Dakota Department of Agriculture website, and if you are a rancher in need of feed or a trucker, you can call the department’s hay hotline at 701-425-8454.
