The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) recently penned a letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, following his comments about the meat industry in a White House Press conference.
“I was surprised to hear you allege the structure of the meat and poultry industry is causing price inflation for meat and poultry products, and disappointed that you failed to acknowledge the array of market forces affecting retail prices,” wrote Julie Anna Potts, NAMI president and CEO.
Potts continued on to say market impacts have largely been the result of COVID-19 and lack of labor. “Nothing proposed by the secretary of Agriculture on the structure of the meat and poultry industry will help families struggling to pay for groceries,” Potts wrote.
