Gov. Steve Bullock (D) issued an executive order Sept. 4, putting Montana in a state of fire emergency due to hazardous wildland fire conditions throughout the state.
Much of the central and eastern portions of the state are experiencing moderate to severe drought conditions. The state of emergency will allow state resources and the Montana National Guard to be mobilized to combat the fires.
The order also suspends the brand inspection permit fee requirement and the brand inspection requirement prior to removal, and allows the Montana Department of Livestock to issue transportation permits by phone when necessary. State wildfire suppression costs as of Aug. 30 are estimated to be at $4.5 million.
