The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) and the Alliance for Meat, Poultry, and Seafood (AMPS) Innovation, an industry coalition representing cell-based/cultured meat makers, sent a letter to the USDA supporting mandatory labeling of cell-based/cultured meat products.
NAMI and AMPS Innovation urged the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to issue an advance notice of proposed rulemaking to obtain more information.
“We commend FSIS and Food and Drug Administration for their continued leadership and encourage both agencies to continue to work in close coordination to ensure consistency in labeling across the industry,” the letter stated.
The two agencies will work together to ensure the safety and labeling of cell-based/cultured meat and poultry products.
