Legal Ledger Brief: JBS USA to pay healthcare costs

JBS USA announced last week it would pay 100 percent of healthcare costs for COVID-19-related treatment.

According to Meat + Poultry, the company stated the benefits would be retroactive to March 1, and individuals enrolled in the company health plan will pay no deductible. The benefits will also extend to family members who are enrolled as dependents.

“As we continue to face a time of great uncertainty due to the pandemic, we wanted to provide additional support to our team members and their families in a meaningful way,” said Andre Nogueira, CEO of JBS USA.

Through its Hometown Strong Initiative, the company has spent $200 million in health and safety measures to protect its workforce and more than $160 million in increased wages and bonuses.
