The House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act on Nov. 19, sending the legislation to the Senate. The measure includes $1.75 trillion in “social infrastructure” spending and was passed on a vote of 220-213, mostly along party lines.
After the bill’s passage, ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA-15) criticized members across the aisle. “House Democrats unabashedly just put America and our future generations on the hook for trillions of dollars in new spending,” he wrote.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the administration has been working with key Democratic senators who have voiced opposition for the bill, including Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ).
If the Senate changes any measures in the bill text, it will be sent back to the House for reconsideration.
